Dr. Tracy Travis

OTD, OTR/L, CLCP
Founder & CEO, Turning Point Life Care Planning
Occupational Therapist
Certified Life Care Planner

My role as a life care planner is to provide clear, well-supported opinions grounded in medical documentation, functional assessment, and accepted methodology, so future care needs can be understood in a practical and objective manner.

Dr. Tracy Travis is an occupational therapist and Certified Life Care Planner with more than 20 years of clinical and forensic experience evaluating the functional and future care needs of individuals with serious and catastrophic injuries. She began her career practicing as an occupational therapist in school-based settings, acute care hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities in Washington State. Her clinical practice later focused extensively on community-based and in-home rehabilitation for individuals who sustained traumatic injuries.

Dr. Travis’s clinical experience includes functional evaluation, hospital discharge planning, adaptive equipment and home modification coordination, cognitive rehabilitation, wheelchair and seating assessments, ergonomic evaluations, return-to-work and return-to-school planning, and case management services. This foundation in functional assessment and rehabilitation informs her life care planning work and her ability to evaluate future medical, rehabilitation, and supportive care needs following injury.

Her work in community-based rehabilitation led her to pursue certification as a Life Care Planner. For more than two decades, Dr. Travis has developed life care plans for individuals with complex injuries and long-term care needs. Her doctoral dissertation focused on life care planning, and she has published in the Journal of Life Care Planning, further strengthening her expertise in life care planning methodology and forensic rehabilitation analysis.

As a Certified Life Care Planner, Dr. Travis adheres to the standards of practice established by the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (IARP) and the International Commission on Health Care Certifications (ICHCC). In addition to her clinical and forensic practice, she serves in national leadership roles within the life care planning profession, including appointment to the ICHCC Board of Commissioners and participation on committees responsible for developing and updating professional standards of practice.

Dr. Travis has testified in more than 50 trials across North America and has been accepted as an expert witness in the areas of Life Care Planning, Occupational Therapy, Cost of Future Care, Functional Capacity Evaluation, and Case Management. She views her role as an educator, developing clear, well-supported opinions and providing testimony that assists the trier of fact in understanding future care needs.

Dr. Travis welcomes professional inquiries from legal and healthcare professionals regarding life care planning methodology, rehabilitation considerations, and case evaluation. She values professional collaboration and mentorship and is committed to advancing high standards within the life care planning profession.
